The myth, the man, the monkey

new window

Estimate from speedy auto glass for a brand new windshield, ~$270 plus tax for the glass, ~50$ plus tax for the molding if it’s needed (apparently, it depends on how it was originally installed, sometimes taking the old window out irreperably destroys the molding). Haven’t checked if my insurance will help with that, and at that cost, it may not worth getting them involved.

Apparently my radiator has a small leak as well, though it must be very small since I have had that for months now, and my liquid levels are still stable. That’s north of $400 without shopping around.

It has occurred to me that I generally never shop around for my car. I take it to a Honda service center, I know they have the right parts, I know they will do it right, but while I think they are always honest with me, I also think I don’t get much of a deal. I think I should consider shopping around more. I just want to make sure I get parts that are none the less reliable, and won’t confuse the Honda people when I take it in for my regular maintenance.

case in point: Just got a windshield estimate from Honday….about $400 plus tax. Already a good proof that multiple quotes are good. I am inclined to trust Speedy to do a windshield properly after all.
